<< back to Meetings Report Card

In the city of Jammu, the winter capital of the Jammu-Kashmir region, the Lord moved mightily in our Crusade and Leadership Conference. This was in spite of a strike that stopped all vehicle traffic throughout the city during the week of the Crusade. This region is full of agitation and constant skirmishes between the Indian government soldiers and Islamic rebels fighting over the sovereignty of the land.

The population of the city exhibited a great hunger for God as they pressed through the hurdles of transportation to reach the meetings night after night. The Chief Minister of the state, Farooq Abdullah, opened the meeting, welcoming all people of all faiths to this outreach. The atmosphere was electric as the people gathered and the message of Christ's love was proclaimed. The response for salvation was strong and the presence of the Lord seemed to hover over the grounds as God met the people. The healing flow was wonderful, penetrating deep into the community. The local police station was adjacent to the Crusade grounds and the Chief of Police reported many phone calls about the meeting. They were telling of healings in the home, of visions of Jesus coming to them at night, and some were baptized in the Holy Spirit through these visitations. Toward the end of the week the Chief of Police received many calls asking for the meetings to continue.

Pictured in this report is a 41-year-old Sikh man who had been blind for the last 7 years. He was completely healed and very happy as he gave Dr. Houtsma a hug of appreciation.

A precious little 5-year-old girl that was born deaf and mute was completely healed, forever changing her life and the life of her family. God is so good to reach people with His healing love. During the week over 60,000 prayed to receive Christ as their Lord and Savior, and an estimated 20,000 received the baptism in the Holy Spirit. One young man, all the way from Leh in Little Tibet, received the baptism in the Holy Spirit and returned home to share God's goodness. One pastor in a town over an hour's drive from Jammu enjoyed an increase of 300 people in his church as a result of the Crusade. These results are phenomenal when we consider that less than 0.16% of the population is considered Christian of any kind, and all the people groups of the region are considered "unreached people."

During the day 400 leaders gathered at the Leadership Conferences to receive ministry and training for the release of the Spirit in their lives. Joining Dr. Houtsma was David Mohan, pastor of the 15,000 member New Life Assembly in Chennai. He was a great encouragement to the pastors as he encouraged and trained them in church growth. On the last night of the Crusade, Dr. Houtsma turned the meeting to David Mohan who preached a powerful message and in turn ministered the healing power of Jesus Christ to the needy. India is experiencing the greatest harvest in its history. Now is the time that we must reap. This great harvest is creating a need for trained leadership to disciple, pastor, and evangelize in this nation. This is why World Outreach offers the External Degree Program in five languages.
